Mr. P discipleship

Last Thursday, Mr. P met with Sue and Phil to begin a discipleship program. This is an obedience based program that teaches new believers about God, the Bible, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. It teaches them how to share what they have learned as well.

Pray that Mr. P will continue to be faithful to study and learn. Pray for the Spirit to illuminate his mind and bring understand of what he hears. Pray also that he will feel a need and concern for his friends and loved ones to know the Truth. Pray that he will have a boldness to share what he learns with them.

Mr. P will met with Sue and Phil every Tuesday.

Partners,

Recently our partner Sue was able to witness to the Mr. P, a farmer next door to our house. He has had a hard year. Divorce and financial loss has caused him to look at his life and the choices he has made. He was ready to hear the Good News of forgiveness and new life in Christ. He prayed that day to receive the gift of eternal life. Since that time, Phil and Sue have had several opportunities to talk with him and help him understand how to follow that commitment with obedience. Yesterday he followed the example given to us by being baptized. You can see our blog at http://hamlinesinkorea.blogspot.com/ to see some photos and maybe a video(if I can get it working).

Please lift up Mr. P, asking that he will continue to honor his commitment and find a boldness in his new faith. Please lift up Sue and Phil, that they will be bold in their discipleship of Mr. P and guided by the Lord. Please ask that Mr. P will be encouraged to share about this decision with his family and friends and that he will stand strong as he does it.

Thanks for your support!!

Here are some photos from one of our dinners with some of the Dong Moon ladies in 2008. We will have our final ministry dinner with them this Saturday, August 22nd.

VBS Summer 2009--We had a nice group of kids. About 30 elementary kids and 10 middle school and high school kids came to the four day event. We had a team of Korean American youth come to teach VBS. They also did some work in Vietnam the week before coming to Jeju. We were blessed to have them. We invited many kids from around the mission center but really didn't get many of them to come. Many of the small Baptist churches here aren't able to do VBS on there own. They were able to come to this VBS and bring some of their non-churched friends. Two of them prayed to receive Christ. They will be followed up by their churches. Our own boys were able to participate, and so it was a big blessing to them as well. They haven't been able to do a VBS like this in a long time, so they really enjoyed it and fell in love with the team from America.

Update June 2009

Prayer Partners,

Instead of writing long monthly updates, which I never seem to do, I am going to try just writing shorter ones as they happen.

We minister to some older Jeju native ladies who sell produce at an open air market. They are there nearly every day. We go on Saturday afternoons and give them a nice snack of coffee or tea and a homemade cookie. There are about 30-40 ladies on our route. We have done this since January a year ago. Our desire is for them to understand that we care about them and so does Jesus. These ladies can't afford to rent a booth inside of the market itself so they set up on the ground surrounding the market area on the sidewalks. During the winter is it so cold and windy and during the summer it is hot. We have had special dinners for them every quarter when we have been here. We invite them all to come to our mission center for a nice Korean meal. During the meal we sing Christian songs and give testimonies. Sue, our fellow worker here in Jeju, also gives the Gospel presentation. We have done this 3 times. About 10 ladies have come to each of these dinners. At first they were very, very suspicious of us. There were about 2 or 3 that were already believers and active in a local place of worship. The others knew nothing about Jesus. Each time we have had some ladies pray a prayer but they are not interested in studying the Word. This past Easter we had our latest one. This time many ladies came on their own to the center. Usually we have to go down to the market area and bring them back. They are definitely getting more comfortable with us. We pray that they will open their hearts to the Holy Spirit and receive the Son as their personal Lord and Savior. We will have another dinner toward the end of August. Please pray for these ladies.

The following is a video clip lasting a little over 5 minutes. It shows some clips from our ministry to these ladies this past Saturday. We hope you enjoy seeing it.

Thanks,
The Hamlines
